To accomplish this task we have: We use seven different questionnaires based on the office being sought. Our values are clearly reflected in these questions. Once we have evaluated the response to our questionnaire and completed the interview, we then rate the candidate on the
following criteria: An NCC Endorsement means that a candidate closely meets our values and criteria. A Recommendation means that a candidate is the best available, yet may have significant differences in some areas. Federal Offices U.S. Senate: Incumbent John Ensign (R) has a good voting record but did not return our questionnaire.U.S. Congress 1: No recommendation U.S. Congress 2: Sharron Angle (R) U.S. Congress 3: Incumbent Jon Porter (R) has a good voting record but did not return our questionnaire. State Partisan Offices Governor: No recommendation in primaries.Republican Primary: Bob Beers was the only candidate to return our questionnaire and be interviewed. Bob addressed the concerns we have had in the past with his positions on our family values issues and candidates he supported. He indicated that he is supportive of a federal marriage amendment and has done so in writing. We could not place him in the pro-life category, as he is still undecided on the question of legislation protecting the life of the pre-born. He is opposed to assisted suicide and would sign legislation recommending the overturning of Roe v. Wade, sending the issue back to the states. His tax position is family friendly. Jim Gibbons considers himself pro-choice on life issues, however his voting record is quite good on these issues. He has publicly opposed a federal marriage amendment. Note: On July 17th, the House of Representatives voted on a constitutional amendment to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Jim Gibbons unexpectedly voted in favor of this amendment. The NCC voter guide was released via e-mail on July 12th. NCC's attempts to get a position from the congressman prior to publishing our voter guide went unanswered. NCC is pleased to see that the congressman now sees the necessity of a marriage amendment. Democrat primary: Jim Gibson is known to be socially conservative on most of our values issues and Dina Titus is known to be quite liberal. Note: Jim Gibson recently pledged to commit at least $10 million over the next decade to fund embryonic stem cell research in Nevada. NCC does not support this destructive type of research since the embryo must be destroyed in order to extract the stem cells. Lt. Governor: Barbara Lee Woollen (R) Treasurer: No recommendation Secretary of State: Brian Scroggins (R) and Danny Tarkanian (R) This is one of the very few times we have endorsed two candidates in a race. Brian has been very supportive of NCC and our values. Danny was endorsed by NCC in 2004 for a state senate seat.
